DIY BAMBOO BIKE KIT ⋅ CALFEE DESIGN ⋅ 1995
DIY Bamboo Bike Kit is a project that started back in 1995. The kit is composed by building materials (the bamboo itself, come connection pieces, etc.), the set of tools needed and some drawings. All the instructions are available online. In this way the end user engages in the complex (but hopefully very rewarding) activity of building his/her won frame according to the specific needs. It is interesting to have a look on how the instructions are made (also with reference to the drawings). These instruction and kit represent a Design for All (DfA) leading to a very unique end result.
How? The product is sold as a DIY (Do It Yourself) kit made to build your own bamboo bike. All the needed components and instructions are provided. Casting is used for the main connections (these components are in fact the most personal/contextual aspect of the bike and should be done by the user)
